Employee Review

Collaborative work environment:

A prosperous company with the solid work culture.

Mixed Feelings:

They like to live up to Christian values like they want to. Some stores have a more strict dress code than others. No tattoos or non-natural hair colors are allowed—no piercings aside from the earlobes.

Pay is okay.

Seasonal Chaos:

There is no visibility of seasonal products other than “what you got last year.” A good plan meant you only moved the product 3 times before it went clearance because you never knew what was coming, when it was coming or how much you would get.

Hobby Lobby in the news

Hobby Lobby raises the minimum wage to $18.50 an hour.

Hobby Lobby announced Tuesday that it would raise the minimum wage, adding to a list of companies, despite current inflation in the country.

This company will raise the salary of its employees, to more than $18 an hour, just like others like Walmart.

Starting January 1, 2022, full-time Hobby Lobby employees will see their paychecks increase to $18.50 an hour. In the last 13 years, this company has increased the minimum wage by 12 times.

“We have a history of treating our employees well,” said David Green, CEO of Hobby Lobby. “In 1998, we decided to close our branches on Sundays and from 8 pm for the rest of the week, to give employees time to rest, to be with their families and to practice a religion.”

As recently as the fall of 2020, this company had raised the wage to $17 an hour. These increases motivated other companies such as Costco, which decided to increase to $17 an hour in 2021, and Target was another that also increased to $15.

Bank of America announced that the hourly wage would be $25 by 2025. Chipotle and Southwest Airlines increased this to $15 in the summer, while Starbucks and CVS Health will do the same for the summer of 2022. Ikea recently increased the wage to $16 an hour.

Despite the inflation registered in the country, many companies decided to increase the salary of their workers. Many economists say prices will stay that way for a few months and could normalize throughout 2022.
